Vazhai Poo Vadai - Banana Flower Fritters

The soft and tender flower ground with bengal gram and spices and deep fried.

Ingredients

  1. Remove the outer layers of red or pinkish petals until you find pale yellowish petals.

  2. Collect all the small flower-like structure found beneath each petal. Each of these will contain some elongated structures.

  3. Carefully pick each small flower and remove the tallest among them.

  4. Also remove the plastic-like structure. Repeat the steps until all the small flowers are cleaned.

  5. Pressure cook them with little water, salt and turmeric powder. Once cooled grind them coarsely.

  6. Meanwhile grind the soaked bengal gram, fennel seeds, red chillies and salt.

  7. Transfer to a bowl.

  8. Now mix the ground bengal gram and the banana flower mixture.

  9. Take a small portion.

  10. Flatten on wet palm with fingers..

  11. Make small sized vadais.

  12. Deep fry them in hot oil.

  13. Fry on both sides until golden brown.

  14. Transfer to an absorbent paper to remove excess oil.

  15. Serve these crispy and tasty Vazhai Poo Vadais with hot tea or coffee.
