Mint leaves chutney or Pudhina thuvaiyal is a regular at most of the South Indian homes. It tastes best with idlis, dosa and even sandwiches. Mint leaves have lots of medicinal properties and its beneficial to add the leaves in our daily diet. Its good for the skin and for digestion. This herb is very aromatic and adds a distinct flavor to the dish. There are more than one way, one can make a chutney from the mint leaves and this thuvaiyal is just one version of it.

Spicy and flavorful dip for idli, dosa and even pulavs.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Heat a wok and dry roast the urad dal and keep aside.

  2. Heat a teaspoon of oil in the same wok and saute the onion.
  3. Add the tomato and green chilies and saute.

  4. Now add the cleaned and washed mint leaves and saute.

  5. Remove from fire and let it cool.
  6. Now grind it together with the urad dal and coconut into a coarse chutney and transfer to a serving bowl.

  7. Heat a teaspoon of oil in a wok, add mustard seeds and few urad dal. Add curry leaves and fry. Pour this over the chutney.
  8. Your spicy Mint Leaves Chutney is ready to be served with hot idli or dosa.
