Tastes good with a spicy curry or just pickles and raitha.



  1. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a wok and add half of the chopped onions.

  2. Saute till its dark brown and keep aside.
  3. Grind coriander seeds, poppy seeds, red chillies, garlic and ginger to a fine paste.

  4. Heat oil in a pressure pan and add the cinnamon, cardamon and clove.
  5. Add the rest of the chopped onions and saute till they are golden brown.

  6. Add the ground paste and saute.

  7. Mix in the salt.
  8. Add the soaked rice and saute.

  9. Mix in the masoor dal.

  10. Add two and a half cups of water and allow it to boil.

  11. Close the lid and cook on pressure for 5 minutes.
  12. Once the pressure subsides, open the lid and let the pulav cool for ten minutes.

  13. Now mix in the fried onions. Mixing the pulav when its very hot will make it soggy.

  14. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot.
